Milano Day 3 – Design Experiences and HOT summer fashion

It’s ironic that I go crazy buying shoes in Milan and yet it’s the one place where I completely massacre my precious pairs walking the cobble stone streets and uneven sidewalks, but trying to gather all the information I need to compile a superb shopping guide to summer fashion during the Salone Del Mobile, has seen me brave high heels for over twelve hours for the past few days. Talking about shoes, I discovered these amazing black and pink pairs at what seemed like a nameless store in Brera. I also could not ignore these amazing red Valentino beauties on MonteNapoleone.

It was the first day of the Salone Del Mobile and now I finally understand why my Milanesi friends insisted that I visit the city during this week. It certainly does come alive and the endless events held in the various stores each evening – collaborations between fashion and design brands – leave visitors spoilt with choice. Store windows showcase fascinating design displays like this gorgeous ‘Bag Chair’ by Samuele Mazza in the Tosca Blu window, this delightful ‘flower’ chair by Future Project in Vierre and are those vases to match Versace’s handbags?? I was invited to Pisa Orologeria on Via Verri to inspect the Skitch designs which focus on the concept of time titled ‘Forward in Time’. Marco Dessi’s lounge chairs resembled satellites in the centre of the entrance. These hovered in a cluster above the ‘Mapper’ carpet while ‘Skylight’ lamps hung from the ceiling.

My day was made extra special with another visit to the Larusmiani concept store on MonteNapoleone where my wonderful friends, Federica and Giuseppe talked me through their ravishing summer collection before introducing me to a typical Italian cucina where we ate tortellini filled with cheese and vegetables followed by coffee and cream pastries at Pasticceria San Ambroes. Larusmiani’s summer range is dominated by a sultry aubergine shade of purple. For ladies, a classic must-have is an Audrey Hepburn style dress and beautiful silk shirts that bear slightly puffed sleeves at the shoulders. Federica modelled a stunning two-tone trench coat cut from the same silk fabric which neckties are made from. For the guys, unlined cotton blazers are their hero items. These can be matched with their colorful range of sweaters, accessories and made-to-measure suede moccasins.
