“Would you like to try a Rene Caovilla shoe, signora?”

How could I refuse the offer when the breathtaking footwear being served on silver platters were even more enticing than the model waiters who served them. Dressed in tuxedos, the young gentlemen swirled around the boutique on the corner of Milan’s Via Sant’ Andrea and Via Bagutta to present Rene Caovilla’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection: ‘The universe of Rene Caovilla’.

Perched on gold stands around the room, the slightly rock-style designs, made to illuminate winter nights, are trimmed in soft velvet with romantic lace and embellished with Swarovski crystals, tiny pearls and large studded rhinestones.

The ‘Draco’ pairs are feminine low-cut velvet shoes with flickering flames of crystals.

The ‘Cygnus’ creates a heated contrast between fiery red and black with platinum crystals on black velvet.

The ‘Cassiopeia’ pairs consist of closed and open-toe shoes crafted from French lace dotted with precious pearl studs.

The ‘Hydra’ suede booties and sandals with platforms have crystal drops drizzled on the heel.

Rene Caovilla’s new range of evening bags were also on display. These have a unique shape and are available as both clutch and shoulder bags. Inspired by the classic diamond cut, the lines are geometric and the exterior is heavily decorated with beads, rhinestones and embroidery.
