Living the suite life in The Four Seasons

Fashion, frescoes, five stars and first class service.

Chances are that you’re in Milan to shop until you drop or tour galleries and museums, but with a luxury suite at The Four Seasons Hotel’s prestigious address in the heart of the Quadrilatero Della Moda, there’s no reason why you can’t immerse yourself in both fashion and art, 24 hours a day – even while you sleep!

This prime location in Via Gesù just off Via Montenapoleone, Milan’s main fashion street lined with big brand boutiques, tells quite a fascinating history. It served as a monastery during the 15th century and headquartered the Austrian occupation in the 17th century with evidence to prove it; Long-standing etched pillars still stand in the lobby together with preserved frescoes and cloister ceilings.

The hotel is divided into three wings; the main wing which overlooks a picturesque courtyard, the presidential wing with 20 rooms and suites, and the joining wing erected above the Yves Saint Laurent boutique.

I got to experience 4 of The Four Seasons’ best suites and live la dolce vita for a day…

The Cloister Suite

Elegant and uncluttered, the Cloister Suites trim the perimeter of the courtyard on the ground level. These split-floor rooms separate the bedroom, the lounge and the marble bathroom on the lower level, while vaulted ceilings – like the inside of a wine cellar – add old charm.

The Fresco Suite

My personal favourite, sleeping in this one-of-a-kind room guarantees happiness thanks to a magnificent fresco ceiling. It’s the first thing that my eyes saw in the morning which means that one will always wake up on the right side of the king-sized bed. It’s a compact room ideal for newly-wed couples on honeymoon with an all-in-one bedroom and lounge area, walk-in closet, courtyard view, plus a shower, European tub and heated floors in the marble bathroom.

The Renaissance Suite

Like a luxury apartment, this huge suite is ‘home away from home’. The spacious set-up is furnished with a beautiful wooden four-poster bed, comfortable couches in neutral tones while pear and sycamore-burl cabinetry give it a homely feeling. All the large windows open into the main courtyard and the luxurious bathroom is decked out in marble.

The Fashion Suite

This executive suite is located in the newly-erected joining wing above the YSL boutique; five floors decorated like homes typical of the late 19th century with window shutters and hanging ivy trailing the railings.

The contemporary internal look and feel soothes with splashes of green and contrasting black and white which washes the linen, curtains, furniture and geometric carpet. This room boasts a private courtyard and a view of the rooftops in the vicinity, while the bedroom’s mirror wall makes admiring your top-to-toe look effortless.

The spa facilities

When I wasn’t relaxing in my suite or out and about shopping, I could be found receiving a pampering treatment at the spa or dipping in the 32-degree Celsius heated pool. A rebalancing massage went hand-in-hand with a detox body wrap using marine algae and Himalayan salt, and two hours later, I even showed off perfectly manicured fingers and toes. For dames who need to give their crowning glory a make-over, The Rossano Ferretti hair salon will customise your hairstyle with a cut, blow wave, treatment, colour or up-do for a special event and even do your make-up on request.

La Veranda

A busy girl’s got to eat well, so to replenish my energy levels, I took a table at La Veranda; the hotel’s breakfast room and restaurant which graduates from a casual day-time eating place to a formal dinner venue. The chefs believe that variety really is the spice of life. Their menu, with mainly Italian cuisine, changes seasonally and offers different enticing dishes everyday. In anticipation of Milan Expo 2015, the kitchen has already got their ‘Menu Expo’ available to their guests. The Italian dishes in this delicious feast all take on a slight twist with a strong influence from global cultures.
